CBI Court Clears Bhupesh Baghel of All Charges

Raipur: A CBI special court in Chhattisgarh has acquitted former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of all charges related to the sex CD case that surfaced before the 2018 Assembly elections. The court ruled that there was no valid ground for prosecution.

On March 5, 2025, Baghel, former political adviser Vinod Verma, and Kailash Murarka appeared before the court, which declared that the accusations against them had no merit. In response, Baghel shared a post on social media platform X, saying “Satyameva Jayate” (Truth Alone Triumphs).

Defence Argues Wrongful Implication

Baghel’s lawyer, Manish Dutt, stated that the ex-CM was falsely implicated in the case. He clarified that Baghel neither created nor circulated the CD. On February 25, 2025, Baghel and Verma had attended a court hearing, after which the case was scheduled for a final verdict on March 5.

Background of the Case

The case dates back to October 2017, when an alleged sex CD surfaced in Chhattisgarh, reportedly involving former minister Rajesh Munat. Following this, police registered a case and arrested Vinod Verma in Delhi, later transferring him to Raipur for investigation.

With the latest court ruling, Baghel and his associates have been officially cleared of all charges, marking the closure of the controversial case.
