🕵️ Theft Occurs at Night in Ambikapur Property

In the early hours of Sunday around 1 a.m., an unidentified man broke into the Kothi Ghar—a property adjacent to the historic Sarguja Palace in Ambikapur—and stole a valuable brass elephant statue. The entire act was caught on CCTV cameras installed on the premises.

🐘 Details of the Stolen Artifact

The stolen item is a decorative brass elephant statue, weighing over 15 kilograms and installed about two years ago during renovation work. It is estimated to be worth approximately ₹40,000. The thief entered through the back gate, took one of two similar statues displayed on the front porch, and exited carrying the heavy artifact.

👑 Background of the Property and Owner

The Kothi Ghar has historically served as a Congress office and is now used as a part-time residence by members of the Sarguja royal family during their visits. The property belongs to TS Singhdeo, former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and a member of the erstwhile Sarguja royal family. Singhdeo was not present at the residence during the incident as he is currently abroad.

🚨 Security and Investigation Update

Security at both the Sarguja Palace and Kothi Ghar is maintained by private guards. The theft was discovered only after a guard noticed unusual activity while reviewing CCTV footage. Subsequently, the residence manager, Raj Soni, filed a complaint with the Kotwali police station.

Additional Superintendent of Police Amolak Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law. “Efforts are ongoing to identify the accused based on the CCTV evidence, and the investigation is active,” he stated.
