A Punjab family of three, who were kidnapped in Iran, has safely returned to Rahon after quick action by the Indian government.
The family — Dharminder Singh, his wife Sandeep Kaur, and their son Mankirat Singh — landed in Tehran on September 25 and fell victim to an international travel scam.
✈️ Family Tricked by Fake Travel Agents
According to Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang, the family trusted unscrupulous travel agents who promised them legal settlement in Canada.
The agents sent the family through Dubai to Iran, where criminals allegedly connected to the agent kidnapped them at Imam Khomeini International Airport and demanded a ransom.
“After their family contacted me, I raised the issue with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The ministry acted quickly and brought the family back,” Kang said.
🛡️ Government Steps Ensure Safe Return
Once the case reached the authorities, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) coordinated with Iranian officials and secured the family’s release. The family returned to Punjab on Monday evening.
This case highlights the effectiveness of government action in handling cross-border crimes and illegal immigration scams.
⚠️ Warning Against Travel Scams
This incident shows how fraudulent travel agencies target families with false promises of foreign settlements. Many agents lure people with cheap deals, leading to dangerous situations abroad.
Authorities urge citizens to verify travel agencies and avoid unregistered immigration services.
