Security Alert Across Multiple District Courts
Several district courts in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh were placed on high alert on Thursday after receiving anonymous bomb threat emails, forcing authorities to evacuate court premises and conduct extensive security checks.
The threats led to temporary disruption of judicial work as police, bomb disposal squads, and canine units were deployed to ensure public safety.
Threatening Emails Sent to Courts in Chhattisgarh
Rajnandgaon, Durg, and Bilaspur on Alert
According to officials, bomb threat emails were sent to the official email IDs of district courts in Rajnandgaon, Durg, and Bilaspur. The messages warned of possible explosive attacks, prompting authorities to treat the situation with utmost seriousness.
In Rajnandgaon, the alert was received at around 10:07 am. The email claimed a suicide attack using an RDX-based improvised explosive device (IED) and demanded that judges vacate the court premises by mid-afternoon.
Following the threat:
-
The district collector and superintendent of police supervised immediate evacuation
-
Court complexes were cleared of judges, lawyers, staff, and visitors
-
Bomb disposal teams and dog squads conducted thorough searches
After detailed inspections, officials confirmed that no explosives or suspicious materials were found.
Similar evacuation and security measures were carried out at courts in Durg and Bilaspur, where authorities later declared the threats to be hoaxes.
Chief Minister Assures Public Safety
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai urged citizens to remain calm, stating that there was no cause for panic.
“Our police administration is fully prepared to handle such situations,” he said, reassuring the public of strong security arrangements.
Rewa District Court Evacuated in Madhya Pradesh
Anonymous Email Triggers Panic
In Madhya Pradesh, the new Rewa District Court complex was evacuated after an anonymous bomb threat email was received at around 8:30 am. The message, sent to the District and Sessions Judge’s official email, threatened to blow up the court by 2:30 pm and mentioned the use of RDX explosives.
Following directions from the High Court and with approval from the District Judge:
-
Judges, lawyers, court staff, and visitors were safely evacuated
-
Bomb disposal and canine squads carried out intensive searches
-
Security checks continued well into the afternoon
Officials later confirmed that no hazardous or suspicious items were detected.
Cyber Police Investigating Source of Emails
Rewa City Superintendent of Police Rajiv Pathak said initial findings suggest the email may have originated from southern India. The cyber police have been engaged to trace the sender and identify those responsible for the threats.
Similar Threats Reported in Other States
Authorities noted that district courts in Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh also reported similar bomb threat emails on the same day. This has raised concerns about a possible coordinated hoax aimed at disrupting judicial proceedings and creating public fear.
Officials also recalled that ordnance factories in Itarsi had previously received similar threats on two separate occasions.
Investigations Ongoing Nationwide
Security agencies across affected states have launched joint investigations to determine the origin, motive, and network behind the threatening emails. Officials stressed that strict action will be taken against those found responsible for spreading panic through false threats.
