Chhattisgarh Tableau Celebrates Tribal Freedom Fighters; MHA Highlights New Laws

Jan 26, 2026

The Chhattisgarh tableau, themed “The Mantra of Freedom – Vande Mataram,” celebrates the bravery and sacrifices  tribal freedom fighters. Their legacy is preserved at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and the Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum, India’s first digital museum dedicated to tribal heroes.

Tribute to Tribal Heroes

At the front of the tableau, Veer Gundadhur, the leader of the Dhurwa community and the head of the 1910 Bhumkal Rebellion, takes the spotlight.

  • The rebellion, known as Bhumkal, symbolized tribal unity against injustice.

  • The tableau shows a twig of mango leaves and dried red chilies, representing mobilization and defiance.

  • Although British forces came from Nagpur to suppress the uprising, Gundadhur avoided capture and continued his resistance with remarkable determination.

Towards the rear, Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh is shown riding a horse with a sword in hand.

  • He belonged to the Binjhawar tribe and was the zamindar of Sonakhan.

  • He distributed grain to the poor during a famine, which led to his arrest in 1856.

  • After returning to Sonakhan, he raised an army of 500 and joined the First War of Independence in 1857.

  • He was executed on December 10, 1857, at Jaistambh Chowk, Raipur, and is celebrated as Chhattisgarh’s first martyr.

Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the digital museum in Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar, showcasing the unity, courage, and commitment of tribal uprisings.

MHA Tableau Showcases Modern Justice System

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) tableau highlighted three new laws:

  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)

  • Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)

  • Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023

These laws replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act on July 1, 2024, creating a modern, citizen-focused justice system.

  • The front displays three new law books atop the New Parliament Building, symbolizing sovereign authority and progressive reform.

  • The Constitution of India forms the backdrop, emphasizing that constitutional values remain central to India’s justice system.

Focus on Forensics and Inclusive Justice

The central section emphasizes scientific policing and modern forensic techniques:

  • A forensic expert collects evidence using advanced tools.

  • A magnifying glass highlights fingerprints, showing the focus on evidence-based investigation.

  • A mobile forensic van and a woman constable managing the 112 Helpline illustrate responsive policing.

The rear section reflects Jan Kendrit Nyay Pranali, meaning justice that is accessible, accountable, and inclusive. Police personnel, forensic experts, and commandos walking alongside the tableau symbolize preparedness, professionalism, and public trust.
