Amit Shah to Begin 3-Day Chhattisgarh Visit, Focusing on Security Review and Anti-Naxal Operations
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Chhattisgarh from December 13 to 15, marking his first visit since the high-level anti-Naxal operations meeting in August. During this visit, Shah will preside over a security review meeting to assess ongoing efforts against the Naxal insurgency in the state.
Key Focus: Anti-Naxal Operations and Security Review
The security forces in Chhattisgarh have intensified their operations against Maoist insurgents, particularly in the Bastar region, where Shah is expected to spend a night at a security base. The review will focus on the ongoing infrastructure development in areas that are on the verge of being liberated from Naxal control.
Since the BJP government took charge in December 2023, significant progress has been made in combating the Naxal threat. According to official reports, 90 Maoists have been killed, 123 arrested, and 250 have surrendered under the current regime.
Surge in Anti-Naxal Operations
Recent security data highlights that since August 25, 66 Maoists have been killed, 177 have surrendered, and 195 have been arrested. The majority of the fatalities occurred in the Dantewada district, with 33 Maoists killed, followed by 13 in Narayanpur and 12 in Sukma. In the last three months, 18 anti-Naxal operations have been conducted, resulting in 91 cases registered, the recovery of 88 weapons, and the seizure of 83 IED devices.
Bastar’s Inspector General of Police, P Sundaraj, spoke about the success of the operations, stating, “Coordinated, intelligence-driven operations in strongholds like Abhujmaad have dealt a significant blow to Naxal activities in the region.” The aim now is to ensure that there are no safe zones left for the insurgents in the area.
Increasing Pressure on Maoists
Shah’s visit comes at a time of heightened pressure on Maoist leadership. The BJP government has made it clear that the insurgents must either surrender or face severe consequences. Shah’s visit will also showcase the hope of the local population, who are eager to end the Naxal menace and rebuild the region with a new identity.
Conclusion
Amit Shah’s visit to Chhattisgarh underscores the government’s commitment to peace and security in the region. As anti-Naxal operations intensify, the authorities are working towards dismantling the insurgency and bringing lasting peace to Bastar and surrounding areas.
