Chhattisgarh Begins Construction of Rs 1,143 Crore Semiconductor Unit in Naya Raipur

Apr 15, 2025

Chhattisgarh has officially commenced the construction of its first semiconductor manufacturing facility in Naya Raipur, a project worth Rs 1,143 crore. The plant, developed by Polymatech Electronics, India’s first semiconductor chip manufacturer, will produce advanced chips for 6G, 7G telecom, and power electronics. This marks a pivotal step in the state’s ambition to become a hub for high-tech industries, drive foreign investment, and create high-value jobs.

Investment in High-Tech Industry

The foundation stone for the semiconductor plant was laid by Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai on April 12, 2025. The project, to be completed over five years, is expected to have a profound impact on the local economy by connecting Chhattisgarh to the global electronics supply chain. Polymatech Electronics will build the facility on a sprawling 150,000-square-foot area, including clean rooms, air conditioning, and 24/7 power backup systems.

Job Creation and Technological Growth

According to Chief Minister Sai, the semiconductor plant will contribute significantly to creating high-value jobs and technical expertise within the region. “This investment sends a strong signal that Chhattisgarh is ready to lead in advanced technology and innovation,” he stated. This factory will also catalyze the development of a robust electronics ecosystem in central India, positioning the state as a key player in the tech sector.

Advanced Manufacturing and High-Tech Production

The new semiconductor unit will specialize in producing advanced chips for sectors such as telecommunications, mobile phones, data transmission, and power electronics. Unlike conventional chip plants, which focus on microcontrollers and household electronics, this facility will manufacture chips using cutting-edge technology nodes like 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm, positioning it at the forefront of global semiconductor production. The plant aims to produce an ambitious 10 billion chips annually by 2030.

Economic Growth and Foreign Investment

Finance Minister OP Chaudhary emphasized that the semiconductor project aligns with the state’s broader vision for economic growth, outlined in the 2025-26 state budget. The project not only promises to create jobs but also to stimulate ancillary industries, including chemicals, metals, and cleanroom equipment. Furthermore, it is expected to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and create synergies with global tech companies such as TSMC and Intel.

The plant’s setup is also in line with the Indian government’s “Make in India” and “Digital India” initiatives. By bolstering local semiconductor production, Chhattisgarh is reinforcing its position as a key contributor to the nation’s digital transformation and technological advancement.

Conclusion: A Strategic Step for Chhattisgarh’s Future

This semiconductor facility in Naya Raipur will not only enhance Chhattisgarh’s industrial landscape but also position the state as a leader in high-tech manufacturing. The collaboration between the state government and Polymatech Electronics demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to economic growth, technological innovation, and global competitiveness. As the semiconductor plant progresses, it is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the state’s future and its contributions to the global tech ecosystem.
