IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Raipur After Bomb Threat; Passenger Arrested

Nov 25, 2024

An Indigo flight traveling from Nagpur to Kolkata was forced to make an emergency landing at Raipur Airport on November 14, 2024, following a bomb threat. The threat triggered panic among passengers and crew members, prompting immediate action from the airline and authorities.

According to Raipur’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Santosh Singh, the threat led to the flight being diverted to Raipur, where all 187 passengers and 6 crew members were safely evacuated. They were moved to a lounge at the airport for safety. The aircraft was taken to an isolation bay while teams from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Raipur police conducted a thorough inspection of the plane.

After several hours of investigation, the threat was deemed a hoax, and the aircraft was cleared to proceed to Kolkata. During the investigation, Nimesh Mandal, a passenger aboard the flight, was arrested for allegedly sending the bomb threat message. The preliminary inquiry confirmed that Mandal was the source of the threat.

Kirtan Rathore, Additional SP of Raipur, stated that the CISF and police had thoroughly inspected the aircraft, ensuring no explosive device was onboard. A case has been filed against Mandal under relevant sections following a formal complaint by the airline.

Authorities continue to question the accused at Mana Police Station as the investigation unfolds.
