Chhattisgarh Nears Victory Over Naxalism: President Murmu Highlights Final Integration Phase
President Droupadi Murmu announced that Chhattisgarh is in the final phase of integrating individuals affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) into mainstream society. Expressing optimism, she stated that the state is on the verge of eliminating the Naxal insurgency.
Chhattisgarh’s Progress in Curbing Left-Wing Extremism
During her address at the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly’s silver jubilee celebration, President Murmu commended the state’s efforts in maintaining democratic values. She emphasized that the Naxal-affected population is ready to embrace development and progress.
“I am confident that Chhattisgarh will soon achieve complete freedom from extremism, marking a historic milestone in the state’s journey,” she stated.
Women’s Representation and Empowerment in Chhattisgarh Politics
President Murmu praised the growing role of women in the state’s governance, highlighting that the assembly includes 19 female MLAs. In the 2023 elections, women outnumbered men in voter participation. She urged legislators to increase female representation in future assemblies, aligning with the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ initiative.
She also encouraged women leaders to support their counterparts in various fields, from education and administration to entrepreneurship and social work. “When women uplift each other, society becomes stronger and more inclusive,” she noted.
Tribute to Mini Mata and Chhattisgarh’s Legislative Excellence
Murmu honored Mini Mata, the first female MP from Chhattisgarh, for her contributions to social welfare. She also commended the state assembly’s disciplined parliamentary conduct, emphasizing its rule of automatic suspension for members disrupting proceedings—a practice unique in India.
Highlighting legislative achievements, she mentioned that Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha has passed 565 bills, many focusing on inclusive development and welfare. She lauded the House for never requiring marshals in its 25-year history, reflecting its commitment to smooth governance.
Balancing Industrial Growth with Environmental Conservation
President Murmu urged policymakers to prioritize environmental conservation alongside economic progress. Chhattisgarh, rich in cement, minerals, steel, aluminum, and power industries, also boasts abundant forests, waterfalls, and biodiversity.
“As the state advances in modern development, it must also protect its natural resources,” she stressed, calling for sustainable policies that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
A Call for Social Equality and Harmony
Referencing Baba Guru Ghasidas’ philosophy of ‘Manke-Manke Ek Saman’ (all humans are equal), Murmu urged leaders to champion social reform. She called on policymakers to uphold the rights of marginalized communities and promote equality in governance.
Governor Ramen Deka and Assembly Speaker Raman Singh also addressed the legislators. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Leader of Opposition Charan Das Mahant welcomed the President and expressed gratitude for her visit.
